Kruse completes successful 2011 session

Salem, OR – When the final gavel dropped on the 2011 session Thursday afternoon, it signified
several victories for Senator Jeff Kruse (R-Roseburg). Kruse secured tax relief for small and family
businesses, continued to lead the way in the complex healthcare debate and championed increased
harvesting from state timber land.

“I believe there were some things to be proud of this session, some things I worked hard on,” said
Kruse. “A lot still remains to be done, but it is good to look at some of the highlights.”
Kruse helped pass Senate Bill 301, a bill to reconnect a portion of Oregon’s tax code to the federal
code. The bill reduces the tax burden by $90 million on small and family owned businesses who
invest in expanding their enterprises.

“This is one of the few truly job creating bills that we were able to get out of the Democrat controlled
Senate,” said Kruse. “It will help Oregon businesses grow and help create good jobs for families
desperately looking for work.”

Kruse was also fought hard for Senate Bill 464, a bill that would increase logging on state forest land.
Unfortunately the bill could not pass muster with the Democrat controlled Senate. Increased logging
in state forests could add thousands of jobs to rural economies.

“Increasing the harvest level in state forests to sustainable levels would put thousands of rural
Oregonians back to work,” said Kruse. “Getting back to the things that Oregon does best, like
capitalizing on our natural resources, is the key to building a strong economy for the long term.”
